"but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful." ( Mark 4:19). Not only do fortunes not get one into heaven, but they have the potential to separate a person from God like few other things. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter” ( James 5:5). However, as the apostle James advised, “You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. Also, he believed the impoverished, like Lazarus, were cursed by God. 14 So then he told them plainly, Lazarus is. 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. 12 His disciples replied, Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better. The rich man incorrectly saw his worldly wealth as proof of God’s love and blessing. 11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I am going there to wake him up. Moral of Lazarus and the Rich Man Parable Jesus tells his disciples that they are going back to Judea to visit Lazarus. This Bible story is a great and powerful reminder that we will pay for our sins on earth when we finally decease, therefore we should love and care for our fellow mankind. Abraham told the rich man that if his brothers did not believe in Scripture, neither would they believe Lazarus, even if he came directly from heaven. Pleading to “Father Abraham” in heaven, the rich man asked that Lazarus come down from heaven to cool his tongue with a drop of water to reduce his “agony in this fire.” The rich man additionally requested Abraham to send Lazarus back to earth as a warning to his brothers to atone for their sins, however, both requests were refused. One of the 12 apostles, Judas Iscariot, secretly went to the Pharisees and asked: ‘How much will you pay me if I help you to find Jesus?’ They agreed to pay 30 pieces of silver, and Judas began to look for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to the Pharisees.Lazarus was welcomed into heaven, while the rich man was condemned to hell. From then on, the Pharisees wanted to kill both Lazarus and Jesus. I know that you always hear me, but I speak aloud so that these people may know that you sent me.’ Then he called out in a loud voice: “Lazarus, come out!” Something amazing happened: Lazarus came out of the tomb, still wrapped in linen cloths. He commanded: ‘Roll the stone away.’ Martha said: ‘But it has been four days! His body will smell.’ Still, they rolled the stone away, and Jesus prayed: ‘Father, thank you for hearing me. Jesus went to the tomb, where a large stone covered the entrance. When the crowd saw his tears, they said: ‘See how Jesus loved Lazarus.’ But some wondered: ‘Why didn’t he save his friend?’ What would Jesus do next? She said: ‘Lord, if you had been here, our brother would still be alive!’ Jesus saw how much she was suffering, and he also began to cry. She fell down at his feet, and she could not stop crying. Then Martha went to Mary and told her: ‘Jesus is here.’ Mary ran to Jesus, and the crowd followed. Do you believe this, Martha?’ She said: ‘I believe that he will rise in the resurrection.’ Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life.” She said: “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus told her: ‘Your brother will live again. When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she rushed to meet him. Crowds of people had come to comfort Martha and Mary. When Jesus arrived at Bethany, Lazarus had already been buried for four days. Lazarus is sleeping, and I am going to wake him up.’ The apostles said: ‘If Lazarus is asleep, that will help him to get well.’ So Jesus told them clearly: ‘Lazarus has died.’ He waited for two more days and then said to his disciples: ‘Let’s go to Bethany. Please come quickly!’ But Jesus did not go right away. One day, while Jesus was on the other side of the Jordan, Mary and Martha sent him an urgent message: ‘Lazarus is very sick. They were Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha. Jesus had three very close friends who lived in Bethany.
